Get To Know Us

Ten years ago a group of friends at our yacht club (Chagrin Lagoons Yacht Club-Eastlake, Ohio) got together and decided to host a benefit dinner to raise funds for the Northeast Ohio chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Too many of our members and their families had been touched by breast cancer. That year we raised about $1400 and became “Boaters for a Cure”.

Each year Boaters for a Cure has grown. We began with a core committee of 14 people, and most of these people are still involved, along with a number of  family members. Our annual fundraiser features a home cooked meal, silent, Chinese and live auctions and TV or radio celebrities. Last year we raised over $17,000.00 bringing our total amount raised to over $110,000.00.

Boaters for a Cure has provided funds for the Northeast Ohio Susan G. Komen Foundation and The Gathering Place, a local cancer support facility with an interest in programs supporting children and families who are touched by all types of cancer. Our funds have helped to provide mammograms for women in our area who could not otherwise afford them. We have also contributed funds for several events held specifically for local breast cancer survivors in an effort to boost morale and provide hope for those patients just beginning their treatment journey.

We rely on donations to make our event successful. In addition to products and services, much of the food used in our dinners is also donated or funded by individuals or organizations. No donation is too big or too small!
