A number of years ago a group of friends at our yacht club
(Chagrin Lagoons Yacht Club-Eastlake, Ohio) got together and decided to host
a benefit dinner to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Too many
of our members and their families had been touched by breast cancer and we
felt it was time to do something to help. That year we raised about $1400
and became "Boaters for a Cure".
Each year Boaters for a Cure has grown. We’ve added raffles, live and silent auctions and help from radio and TV celebrities. Our dinner proceeds have increased with each passing year. Boaters for a Cure has provided funds for Northeast Ohio Komen for the Cure, where we have not only become an annual Race for the Cure sponsor, but have provided much-needed monies for programs that have provided mammograms for those who would not otherwise be able to afford them. We have also been able to provide financial support to The Gathering Place, a cancer support center with an interest in programs supporting children and families whose services are provided free of charge. Boaters for a Cure is growing every year but we need your help! We are requesting the aid of boaters and non-boaters alike and ask that you join us in the fight against this disease and its effect on our families by supporting our annual event. Boaters for a Cure
